Modified Grounds investigates the profound geological changes brought about by human processes of construction, production and consumption. For this multi-part series, visual artist Katrin Hornek and composer Judith Unterpertinger translate geological, industrial and urban movements of material into performative sound installations.

The production involves a walk with numerous steps and takes place outdoors. Sturdy, closed-toe footwear is required. Weatherproof clothing is essential. Unfortunately, the site is not wheelchair accessible.

In the event of bad weather, we will inform you at short notice whether the performance will be postponed to the alternative date of 14 November 2026 or cancelled. The weather decision will be made three hours before the start of the performance and published here on the Wien Modern website.

Tip: On the first Saturday of every month at 10:00, MA 48 offers a free guided tour of the Pfaffenau waste incineration plant (except on public holidays). Information and registration.
In addition, a free special guided tour for Wien Modern audiences will take place on 20 November 2026 at 15:30. Advance registration is required at pfaffenau2026@gmail.com.
