House Rules for Wien Modern events

As Wien Modern, we aim to create a safe and non-discriminatory space where everyone feels respected and welcome. We are all responsible for this!

We do not tolerate discrimination based on actual or attributed gender, sexual orientation, race, origin, language, religion, disability, neurodiversity, age, physical appearance and/or class. We pay particular attention to the interaction of multiple forms of discrimination (= intersectionality). All people are different and have individual perspectives and experiences.

For us, being aware of how we interact means:

  • striving for mutual understanding
  • using inclusive and respectful language and avoiding discriminatory terms, generalisations, stereotypes and judgements
  • refraining from attributing identity (e.g. gender) to others based on perceived physical characteristics
  • taking actions and making conversation with mutual consent (only yes means yes)
  • being in solidarity with discriminated/marginalised persons

To ensure that the event runs smoothly, it is also important to:

  • follow the respective guidelines for the event and the venue's house rules (e.g. compulsory cloakroom use, late admission, refusal of entry due to exceeding the venue's capacity, photos/videos)
  • when in doubt, follow the instructions of the team (evening director, festival management)
  • only take photos and videos of the audience area with the consent of the persons depicted (if you do not wish to be photographed by official festival photographers, please inform the staff)

The guidelines apply to all visitors, artists, and staff present at each event. In addition, the existing house rules of our various venues apply. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in exclusion from the festival.

Members of the Wien Modern team can usually be recognised by their red lanyards.

At Wien Modern, we are continuously working on evaluating and improving our awareness measures.
