A Mexican pianist of Cuban origin based in Paris, Ana Gabriela Fernández has an affinity for 20th- and 21st-century music. She is particularly engaged in promoting Latin American music and in collaborating with contemporary composers. At this second of a total of three matinees at the Alte Schmiede during Wien Modern 2026, she will present an extensive programme featuring five world premieres by composers from Vienna, Uruguay, Argentina and Mexico.
This is joined by one of the few pieces by Conlon Nancarrow in which the ideas behind his Player Piano studies – which are unplayable by humans – have a direct encounter with the physical presence of human performers.
