As a tribute to the insect world, which is threatened by extinction, the Chuchchepati Orchestra combines the acoustic sound of its instruments with a collection of previously unheard scientific recordings of insects. The installation features 59 scientific recordings that offer a deep insight into the vibrational communication of insects and spiders. These documents from the emerging field of ‘biotremology’ range from the delicate duets of aphids to the distress calls of assassin bugs. Each track is a sonic snapshot of the diverse acoustic behaviours found in the insect world and reveals the sophisticated communication capabilities of these creatures.
