In his preface to Bunte Steine [colourful stones] (1852), Adalbert Stifter invites us to recognise a „gentle law“  at work behind all the processes of the world (the cosmos), however big they may be, and to act accordingly. Sanftig is intended to be a musical-performative meditation on Stifter’s trains of thought, a call to respect the great within the small and, from there, to readjust the balances of the world: a plea for the preservation of creation. […] How this could work, whether hope (Hope? Can such a thing still exist, in illo tempore?) is possible, and what it might lead to: Sanftig wants to stimulate an investigation into this.
