The Korean composer Unsuk Chin came to Germany in 1988 and is one of the most renowned composers of our time. In 2024, she was awarded the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize, which is considered the "Nobel Prize for Music". Her music deliberately dodges all stylistic categorisation and instead focuses on timbre, light and dream. In Alice in Wonderland, Unsuk Chin humorously draws on a rich variety of styles to create a fascinating and scintillating world. Far removed from anything fairy-tale-like, Alice's encounters become surreal dreamscapes.

With this major new production, MusikTheater an der Wien will finally again become a venue for Wien Modern, after Olga Neuwirth in 2012 and Bernhard Lang in 2006.
