Liza Lim’s opera Tree of Codes tells the story of a child who, in a disjointed, dreamlike world, witnesses the rise and fall of his father – and ultimately finds himself in his father’s place. Past, present and future overlap; reality and memory blur into a poetically fragile liminal world. Based on Jonathan Safran Foer’s «cut out» book, a musical theatre piece with many layers unfolds, exploring origins, memory and the invisible traces of time. Hybrid creatures and sonic metamorphoses also populate the stage.
