- Bernhard Leitner: Musik, Objekte
For more than five decades, Bernhard Leitner has devoted himself to the idea of using sound – its movement, frequency, timbre and volume – to sculpturally shape and design space. As early as 1969, when he moved from Vienna to New York City, where he was to live until 1982, he began taking notes and making sketches to record his initial theoretical reflections on sound-space sculptures. It was here that the trained architect, whose thinking is influenced as much by New Music as by classical and contemporary dance and the visual arts, began to conceive of sound as a building material. In a major solo exhibition at the Secession, his work can be experienced with (almost) all the senses.
