Georg Friedrich Haas: ceremony II

Program

Cast

We promise that we will restrict our use of words like ‘experience’ after this, but this conclusion to the festival is a true exception: For a whole evening, the Painting Gallery of the Museum of Art History Vienna will be transformed into a – freely explorable, of course – sound labyrinth. Instruments from six centuries will enter into dialogue with the paintings. Around 70 musicians will bring to life a giant three-dimensional, four-hour-long compendium of atmospheres and tunings (‘Stimmung’), temporally and spatially intertwined. Georg Friedrich Haas spent many months perfecting the piece (with countless pitches, calculated up to 5–8 decimal points and 623 pages of score just for the pianos in the Dome Hall). ‘Stimmung’ becomes an experience in an immediate, emotional sense with Haas – the longer, the better. So, please, forget all the numbers we just told you and just remember the date.
