On the ranking of topics that make a lot of people say „that’s not my thing“ or „I have no idea about this“, contemporary music is very high up. At the same time, this apparently niche field, with the many shapes and hues that New Music can take, can be just as enjoyable and interesting as sport, a bottle of wine, a book, a film or whatever else you may enjoy. We say: it doesn’t matter if you come with a lot of prior knowledge or very little, both are perfectly enough. At Wien Modern, curiosity is rewarded with surprising experiences that, at their best, will broaden your horizons. Alongside numerous festival productions, there will be talks, workshops, encounters with artists and other people of the festival, guided tours and looks behind the curtains – and many opportunities to ask questions: What on earth was that just now? Why does it sound like that? What’s behind it? Why are they burying a piano here? And is that even music?

The PLUS is a new addition: easy to spot in the title, our supporting programme presents itself at a glance in all its variation and openness. Everyone is invited, and admission is always free. You are warmly welcome!
